The Carnival of Personal Finance #126 review
moneyrelations :: Nov.16.2007
The Carnival of Personal Finance #126 passed through the Million Dollar Journey this week and I had submitted my post of “How I don’t brown bag and I’m happier for it“.
My little PF rebellion generated some nice feedback and it also got mentioned in the MSN blog Smart Spending so I thank both for the uptick in traffic
Investment posts caught my eye this week due to my interest in this topic. I learned something new from each of these posts:
Timothy Sykes, author of An American Hedge Fund, shared where he finds his stocks to trade. I will make note of this.
At Stock Trading To Go, Karl Wiebe made a list of 7 Investment Ideas For The Sinful Investor. Is coffee and beer now considered a sin? Ah well, I am a tea and wine drinker.
Also, something totally new to me but introduced by Everyday Finance was the concept of ETFs for the impending water shortage. It’s something we don’t think about in Canada but obviously it does happen in developing countries.
Finally, to break away from my investment bias, Fire Finance offered a list of PF bloggers and their Google rankings before and after Google’s last PR update. Now, I haven’t read each and everyone of these blogs so I can’t vouch for their quality but from my regular blog reads, it’s a shame to see that their PR went down. I used to laugh when I saw those donation buttons and proclamations that “blogging is hard work, buy me a beer”. Now I know not to laugh. It is hard work coming up with great content and Google should give people back their authority…
Anyways, I digress. Go see if your favorite PF blogger got hit.

Thanks for the mention, tea and wine drinker? I like tea but man wine gets to me for some reason, doesn’t like my system!
Here’s another water ETF for your consideration:
CWW on the TSX.
It isn’t liquid enough for me just yet as its relatively new but it apparently provides better exposure to water-related stocks than its American counterparts.
Hi Blain,
Thanks for commenting. Funny when I first read the title, I thought it was going to be a stock speculation post. Duh! Then I finally clued in. Silly me that my view on beer and coffee is something social but of course there’s a markup due for our vices!
Hi WE,
Thanks for the tip. I checked it out. It’s from Claymore… I actually have the CBQ ETF and I thought that was thinly traded and was preparing to move to ishares now that I have an American account but wow CWW is thinly traded! But good to know!
