And now, a word for my Entrecard sponsors
moneyrelations :: Dec.16.2007
Hello, stranger! New here? How about subscribing to my RSS feed? Thanks for visiting!
It’s time again to thank the supporters of my little blog. Just like my investing strategy, networking will eventually pay dividends – one baby step at a time.
As visitors to my site might have noticed, I’ve been using the Entrecard widget for awhile now. In fact, I first wrote about it here. I can’t complain as it’s free traffic.
Here are my stats:

From the actual Entrecard.com site and ads placed on other blogs, I’ve received 687 visits in about a month. That calculates to about 23 visits per day. Traffic has probably gone up since the beginning so I would guestimate that it’s more like 35-40 a day.
Entrecard reminds me a lot of StumbleUpon since you’re also discovering new sites. StumbleUpon might give you a boost in traffic from the outset only to taper off until the next person gives you another thumbs up. However, traffic from Entrecard is more consistent on a daily basis.
Much like StumbleUpon it’s also hard to get quality traffic. People might be visiting your site just to card drop or widget surf – that is, drop a card and click on the ad to move onto the next blog.
Still, I contend that the tool is what you make of it. I widget surf too but I will comment on a blog if a headline catches my eye.
As my stats indicate, my relationship with the Entrecard network is pretty much reciprocal.
I might drop more cards on other widgets but 2/3 drop back on mine. And more than half of those droppers continue clicking onto the ads. It’s not me bumping my own widget stats but others who are clicking.
To be totally honest, probably the reason why my stats are pretty even is the fact that I have the same card droppers on my site. This repetition can be a good thing as one day, I might turn the card droppers into readers; they are also guided to my advertisers.
Speaking of advertisers, I’d like to thank mine for the past week and I hope you received good traffic from me. And at the very least, this linkback.
Million Euro Wiki – The guys from the MEW just recently gave away their latest iPod Touch. For every 25 pages sold, a draw is held. They also offer a very generous affiliate program – $30 for every referral.
I wonder what their reaction is to Google’s announcement of the Knol? Apparently, even Google thinks paid wikis are a good idea.
Real Money Making Advice – How interesting, a .za domain. This blog is from South Africa but it also covers universal topics such as saving tips and debt reduction along with making money online advice.
Fresh Geeks > Rotten Smelly Geeks. This is a very well written blog on meta blogging, tech and social media. A good Entrecard find.
One World Income – Another interesting find. One World Income deals with alternative investing. How alternative? How about pre-historic fossils? Now that’s thinking out of the box!
Paul Hartrick – Some Australian dude living in Japan. Comments here sometimes. He might be questioning my stats and motives for this post. Pure pimpage, baby.
Reading his about page, he says he’s “made some extreme decisions”. Mysterious.
Spill and I’ll read it on your blog.
Tokyo Expat Life – Another expat living in Tokyo with some keen observations on Japanese society: from wondering if the Japanese know it’s Xmas to where an old homeless lady is.
Trainee Trader – This blog is right up my alley as it says it’s a basic source for trading information. It gave a real nice tip on some free currency trading and futures and options magazines. Thanks, I’ll check them out!

that’s what may bug me about this entrecard…not true readers! just bloggers, stopping off to leave their card. i think i would rather have consistent readers, and not as many hits/day…
but…i like your blog. you’ve got some good info and it’s written in a way that i can understand!!!
I agree the traffic is questionable but if you have a decent blog I’m sure you can capture a few readers this way. It’s also one of the only ways to get free advertising on the big boy’s like johnchow etc. that is if they approve you
Great blog btw!
Thanks…. I have some interesting stats coming your way…BTW I tried to write Japanese but your wordpress database rejected it..hmmmm….
@ melissa
I pride myself in having a blog that is easy to read. I put my site through websitegrader.com and my blog requires the reading capability of a 7th grader. I’m working to lower this as I had it at 5th grade before.
I wish people wouldn’t make things so complicated.
@ highstakesliving
Actually, I think JC’s blog has 0% rejection which is really nice of him. Now getting a spot is a different matter…
People should learn from him that even the big boys aren’t snooty.
I have a 0% rejection rate too and I’d like to keep it that way. I have lots of interests so I assume others do as well. A blog would have to be really offensive for me to reject.
@ Paul
That’s okay. I can’t read Japanese
Hi moneyrelations
Rotten Smelly Geek here lol. Thanks for mentioning Fresh Geeks.
I’m still ‘iffy’ on the whole Entrecard concept, but the service creates some exposure for a site without cost (besides the unattractive widget and advertising the service aspect) so I really have no complaints about it. BTW, I also have 0% rejection rate…I accept all advert requests unless the site is offensive (which I have yet to encounter).
I have found some great blogs via Entrecard. I try and spend time on blogs like this! Thanks for the mention! Tokyo Expat.
MoneyRelations – hi there – I gotta ask: why on earth would you WANT to have your blog with a lower reading capability? You’re really smart! Your blog is terrific! Why would you want it to be able to be read by less than 5th graders? I like it because I’m NOT a 5th grader and I like to read intelligent stuff.
@ jblu
Your blog is nicely designed. I can see where you’d have a problem the widget. For some reason, widgets like to have yellow for accent color so it goes with my blog… I guess
@ Johnny
No problem and thanks for commenting
@ Nancy
My blog is intended for me and for beginners. That’s not to say I’m a 5th grader but everything is filtered through my noggin’.
I actually make an effort to write in a simple, easy to scan manner (look at some of my earlier posts).
For my purposes, I can do it with plain language
The widget has a kind of financial look and feel to it, and it’s yellowish so it goes pretty well with your blog scheme. Thanks for noticing my wp design.
