Is it really possible to make money online?
moneyrelations :: Apr.18.2008
Hello, stranger! New here? How about subscribing to my RSS feed? Thanks for visiting!
I mentioned a couple of months back that I’m on a big project at work. It’s even more hectic than I first expected. Even though I’m recognized for my input, I’m spinning my wheels and wondering how much other people’s ass covering I can stomach in the future. Not for long.
Which brings me to my point. I think it’s time to ramp up my wealth generation so I can escape the dreary confines of my daily prison - aka my office cubicle.
This blog has always served a two fold purpose for me:
- to document my views in the wacky financial industry
- to play around with web technology as I am in IT
I never had illusions that I’d be able to make money online but a few bucks wouldn’t hurt. I wanted to learn what was going on at the grass roots level as what was “hot” in blogging. I must admit that it has been helpful in my job as an “intangible” skill. And it was a good idea to kill two birds with one stone as I’d finally learn how to be responsible with my money and to put it to good use.
I read a lot of make money online sites and wrote about my experiments with the products they were promoting like the Million Dollar Wiki and Teaching Sells. In all honesty, I made friends through the forums of these programs. However, did they make me money? That would be a no. The truth is, a lot of these make money online schemes are scams. I’m just glad I didn’t spend a lot of money on these pursuits.
So, when one is a new blogger and has flirtations with making some money online, how does one recognize these scams? Drumroll please… ripping the scammers a new one is Vic Franqui of Blogger Unleashed.
Vic is a straight shooter and holds no prisoners in calling people out for scamming unsuspecting newbies. A word of warning, the language of his blog is harsh. As a Canadian, and thus predisposed to being politically correct, I admit I cringed when I read / watched some of his posts. But if you can get past that, there is so much substance in his words that you cannot dispute. Quite frankly, he admits that the use of his colorful language is an attention grabber and effective in communicating his message. And his message is good, folks. Vic specializes in SEO and blogs about the techniques and the tools he uses to make money online. These are real how-to tips which is much appreciated in a market saturated with MMO blogs that have all converged in a single mind-meld, devoid of independent thought.
So, if you have ever contemplated making money online, I’d give Blogger Unleashed a try. I finally do believe that it is possible and not the pipe dream that other internet marketers sell for their own self interests. As you dig more into each posts, you’ll find that there’s a lot of sincerity in Vic’s desire to help people. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover and this unleashed blogger is a welcome change.

Yes, I think that is possible. I agree there are a lot of scams too especially those who guarantee that you could earn a lot of money. Blogger Unleashed seems to load forever. It can’t be loaded in my browser.
Hi Champdog
Thanks for the comment. Yes, when we first start blogging, it might start out as a hobby but then we start flirting with monetization. I always knew that blogging was difficult and I chose the Investing niche because I knew if I ever got bored of it, at least I learned something that will help me in the future. Not that I’m bored with it and I hope to get back to a regular posting schedule because I really enjoy it… but real life responsibilities come first before hobbies.
As for Blogger Unleashed, the load time works fine for me. He provides step by step tutorials rather than pure fluff. And he provides one on one mentoring with his readership. The guy does a lot for the community despite his rough exterior.
He recommends BANS to those who want to make money online as an alternative to the daily grind of blogging. Of course, there is an investment component of time and money to the tools but unlike other business models, this one doesn’t suck the life blood out of you.
Thanks, I can load the site now. I like the idea of learning something new when we write about it even though it doesn’t turn out to be earning a lot of money. I’m doing the same now. Blogging is my part time anyway, and I enjoy the discussion with other bloggers.
twiddling my thumbs awaiting something witty, new and insightful from MoneyRelations, as of Apr. 28, 2008.

Aww, thanks, Nancy. Work has been a killer and I suspected it as well. I really need to get a test plan out by next week and then I get to go on vacation. And then after a week and a half, I come back and see how things blew up without me and pick up the pieces. I don’t expect my workload to lessen until July and that’s the FIRST phase.
I’ll be back with my ramblings in a bit
I have found the best option for me is to go back to part-time employment while I persue the make money online dream. Its taken the pressure off not earning anything, when I have always worked, but I still have some time to do some real stuff. Vic is my first and only mentor - Ive never been into mentors - most appear to be into their own egos or money making, but he does appear to be for real - are you doing the contest?
Hi lissie
Thanks for stopping by. I don’t know what I was thinking but yes, I’m in the contest. I don’t have much time for it but I’ll catch up when things slow down for me in a bit. I really enjoy the learning aspect and after I get the theory, I’ll apply the concepts in practice. That’s the biggest key. It’s great to have someone who is really in the business give you advice and share the knowledge.
I went to the Blogger Unleashed website with high expectations, but the website has so many graphics and ads that it started to hurt my eyes. Oh well.
Hey krystal,
I’ve just become ad blind to all that
I do have to say that I have applied some of what Vic says and I have made money - not enough to break even yet but I think he’s onto something here… If you want to be successful with what he’s promoting, you have to invest in the software. He’s a quantity type of guy and the sheer mass of your network portfolio will get you the results. If you’re not serious about it, then it’s a waste of time and money, no matter how small the amount.
As Yoda says, “do or not do… there is no try”.
I can honestly say I have made money online through my blogging efforts and to a lesser extent with affiliate programs. I can’t quit my regular job yet but anything worth doing takes time. With blogging, you just have to do what you love and be passionate about it. I think if you focus on that, the money will be there eventually. I document on a monthly basis my earnings if you are interested. I’m not making “John Chow” kind of money…but even he started small.
Hi James
I think it’s a hit or miss with blogs. Let’s look at John Chow. He spends very little time on his blog (or so he claims). I wouldn’t follow his advice with MMO because he already got his notoriety and that’s hard to duplicate. Didn’t he say he was going to go incognito and make another blog? I haven’t heard anything about it.
Since it’s a hit or miss nature to make true money from blogging, I keep this one as a hobby blog - plus, I don’t feel pressure to write when I don’t have time.
I do have to say that the BANS do make money and it’s a formula you can replicate it over, and over again. I’m really happy with the results and once you’ve got the keyword selections sorted out, you just have to maintain it. Great passive income and Vic really opened my eyes to a lot of things.
Hi Mariam,
As Promised, I cam to check out your blog after reading your comment on OMG. I have to say I like both your writing style and open appraoch to different subjects. After spending a year in TO I am also very pro-canadian and therefore wish you all the best with this venture.
Do you use bans yourself??? and if so was it though BU that you started this? I have been using bans for some time now but it was Vic that opened my eyes as to it’s true potential. I now have close to 70 sites up and running and can therefore vouch that it is indeed possible to make money online!
I’ll be back
Thanks.
AP
Hi AP,
Yes, Vic was the one that introduced me and I have to say that I like the concept very much of niche sites and BANs. In fact, I think it captures the right amount of energy that people are willing to give if people are honest with their expectations. At the beginning, people are all gung-ho about a project and then they lose interest. If it’s a blog, then that’s the death nail if you want to make money off it. That’s why I choose projects that will optimize my time even if I quit
This blog helps me with my financial literacy and work intangibles should I ever decide I’ve had enough.
As for BANS and content niches, after I have properly selected my keywords, done enough promoting, I like the fact that I only have to maintain them afterwards. Perfect for someone that has a short attention span and is looking for the next bright idea.
So far, I’ve only got lunch money back for my endeavors and I’m still in the hole with the tools I bought but I’m still in better shape than OMG…
Good luck to Marc as I’m sensing he’s realized that he was had and it would have been better to just dabble in different things first than to throw himself head long into a tough, tough market.
Thanks for dropping by, AP.
